BioBasis

Integrated biorefinery - supply of basic substrates from biogenic residues for the production of key chemicals, taking into account regional and econmic aspects

The aim of the project is to optimise the efficiency of biomass-usage through cascading utilisation of biogenic residual materials. New possibilities for biomass utilisation are being defined and assessed in regard to their realisation-potential through innovative approaches for generating substrate and adaption and expansion of existing bio-refinery technologies.

The majority of residues is used for the production of biogas or is directly disposed.  In terms of sustainable development, a cascading presents the optimum. Finding new possibilities for biogenic waste material usage is becoming increasingly attractive both in terms of ecological efficiency and from entrepreneurs perspective. Several companies are already undertaking internal R & D efforts to realise this process. In most of these cases, utilisation of in-house residues is the primary point of focus. As a result, possibilities for intra-enterprise synergies are hardly ever being detected.

To make a qualified statement regarding the possible untapped potential of the material residue and its implementation it is necessary to structure the necessary process chains from the residual material to the recycling process and to define the substance related, process related and economic parameters. On the material level it is required to specify the basis-substrate for the bio refinery technologies as well as the processes for the procurement of the residual material. Hereby, basis-substrate is defined as raw materials with ideal quality.
