2-step digestion of slaughterhouse waste to reduce trace element removal by hydrogen sulfide

The aim of this project is the development of an anaerobic 2-stage process for the mono-digestion of slaughterhouse waste. Due to the 2-stage process set up the substrate throughput rate can be increased at a constant fermenter size. Additionally, sulfur inhibition can be prevented by the selective addition of additives which also contribute to an enhanced availability of essential trace elements for methane formation.

Aspects of ammonia/sulfur inhibition on hydrolysis and acidogenesis, subsequently, will be examined within the project range as well.
